Cisco to acquire Composite Software

This morning, Cisco announced their intent to acquire Composite Software for $180 million dollars. In today’s world, it seems like a rather fair price. Composite Software is based in San Mateo, California. Admittedly, this is the first I hear of Composite Software. After reading a little more about the company at their website, it seems like they provide Business Intelligence / Big Data solutions and services. Their products are designed to streamline and unify data across the various platforms and sources on a network and consolidate it as if it were in one place. The objective is to allow companies to better visualize the data in order to make more precise and effective real time decisions.

Who said Cisco was a networking company? 😉

Here is a list of products from Composite Software:

Composite Information Server
Composite PerformancePlus Adapters
Composite Discovery
Composite Active Cluster
Composite Monitor

Their customer base is rather impressive. Information below is from the Composite Software Wikipedia.

Composite Software’s data virtualization software is deployed at

  • 11 of the top 20 money center banks
  • 7 out of the top 10 ten pharmaceutical companies,
  • 4 out of top 5 integrated energy companies, major communications, consumer and industrial companies, and government agencies including the world’s largest IT organization, the U.S. Army. See the entire list of various customers at their wikipedia site

Here is the Official Cisco Press Release. Best of luck to both Cisco and Composite Software.

Thank you.
